Made out of bamboo and banana fibres – otherwise agricultural waste products, these are manufactured and sold by Saathi, a  sustainable consumer products company.  The spokesperson informs CauseBecause that the raw material is purchased from local farmers.

These sanitary pads are apparently 100% biodegradable and decompose in about six months. The company is spreading the word about ‘sustainable menstruation’ through  their social media handles, workshops and collaborations. In rural areas, the attempt is to address the stigma attached to menstruation and menstrual hygiene by conducting educational workshops and awareness sessions. It may be noted that for every pad purchased, the company donates one in rural areas.

The Saathi pads are available on www.saathipads.com, e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, LBB, and select retail stores in a few metro cities. The price ranges from Rs 180 to Rs 360.
