In an aim to guide
forest staff to deal with a broad scenario related to man-animal
conflict, the forest department has organized a training programme of
forest officials from across Vidarbha in Nagpur division of Maharashtra.
The seven-day training programme, being conducted by
non-government organizations, is underway at the Central Forest Rangers
College (CFRC).
‘While trainings are being imparted on various
measures to be undertaken to mitigate the conflict situation, trainees
are also being guided about mob control, use of electronic gadgets in
tracking, and capturing animals, etc.,’ BD Wagh, principal of CFRC, told
media. Wagh is also the convener of the programme.
‘We are
seeking help of experts in the forest department, animal husbandry
department and wildlife NGOs for the training purpose. While senior
forest officers are guiding the trainees on technical aspects, senior
police officers are invited to teach techniques of mob control.
Sarpamitras have also been roped in for guidance in handling snakes,
while NGO activists are teaching installation and use of camera trap to
the trainees. Expert veterinary doctors are guiding the trainees about
the behavioural aspects, treatment and care of wild animals,’ Wagh
informed.
