Mukhya Mantri Dal-Bhaat Yojna is an initiative of Jharkhand government to provide subsidized food to the poor people in the state.
The decision to start the subsidized lunch scheme to help people from below poverty line (BPL) was taken at the review meeting yesterday of the food and civil supplies department by chief minister Arjun Munda.
‘Under the scheme, we will provide rice, dal and one vegetable at Rs 5. The scheme will be launched next month from 100 centres across the state,’ state food and civil supplies minister Mathura Prasad Mahato told the media.
Talking about the nitty-gritties of the scheme, Mahato said the government will manage the scheme through non-government organizations (NGO). The state will provide subsidized rice and dal to the NGOs at a subsidized rate of one rupee per kilogram.
‘We will also provide space to the NGOs at public places, preferably on civil court premises, sadar hospitals, and somewhere close to district collectorates that hundreds of people visit every day from remote places. Also, suitable places will be provided at bus stands so that commuters get the benefit of the scheme,’ said Mahato.
The target of the government is to provide relief to poor people, especially those who go out for work and are forced to spend a considerable amount of money on lunch. It is expected that once the scheme is launched, poor people will get some relief.
