The 6th Toy Biz International (June 30-July 2, 2012) at Pragati Maidan,
New Delhi, has brought ‘green toys’ into sharp focus with buyers as well as
general visitors showing relatively more interest in them. India’s biggest B2B toy
expo had more than 2,000 visitors on the second day. This year’s theme – Destination
India – is an attempt to demonstrate the Indian toy industry’s potential and
creativity.

Toys made up of eco-friendly materials such as paper and bamboo garnered
attention for being non-toxic and cost-effective”attributes that are already much
in demand among aware consumers. As things stand at present, Chinese toy
producers have cornered a major market share in the subcontinent. However, the Indian
industry feels that innovations and new features showcased at the sixth annual
toy expo will bring in investors and give consumers an accessible alternative
to plastic.

The toy industry, which is largely made up of small and medium
enterprises (SMEs), is growing at over 15 per cent annually, according to Toy
Association of India (TAI).

‘The Indian toy industry is all set to take the “go green” mantra for the
safety of children. Together with TAI, the industry has launched a campaign, “We
Care”, to prove their sincerity. The industry wants to show that “We Care” for
the society, workforce and environment,” TAI President Raj Kumar told
media on the sidelines of the event.

The Association has initiated various steps to help the industry improve
their standards as well as market their products well. The toy industry is
taking various steps to produce interesting toys that are also user-friendly
and non-injurious for children.
