ACC has joined Holcim Group in supporting the #SaveKidsLives
campaign to enhance road safety awareness as part of the UN Global Road Safety
Week (4″10 May 2015). #SaveKidsLives is planned as a high-involvement campaign
across Holcim Group, of which ACC is a part.
The launch of #SaveKidsLives at the ACC headquarters at Cement
House, Churchgate, in Mumbai witnessed a safety-focused address from guest of honour
Geoffrey Currie, regional director, occupational health and safety (OH&S),
Holcim Limited, followed by a slogan and drawing competition for children of
Cement House employees. National Cadet Corps and campaign volunteers held a roadshow
near Churchgate to highlight the need for road safety, particularly for
children. The Mumbai Traffic Police was also requested to participate in the
campaign in order to generate greater awareness.
Stephan Lane, director, OH&S, has urged all
units of ACC to draw up an activity plan to demonstrate the company’s
commitment to work for better road safety for children. Going beyond the UN
Road Safety Week, ACC has also decided to make this part of an ongoing three-
year commitment to road safety to be implemented as a CSR project. ACC units
have already nominated ambassadors from among their employees to steer the programme.
