This ‘safety model school’ project is a collaborative effort between Galaxy Toyota and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and has been launched in Montfort Senior Secondary School, New Delhi.
The initiative – a part of the Team Toyota Activity (TTA) project undertaken by Team Toyota India – aims to educate and sensitise not only schoolchildren but also teachers, parents and school vehicle drivers on responsible safety habits and thereby ensure a safer traffic environment for the next generation. Apart from TKM employees, Team Toyota India includes their dealer and supplier partners.
Galaxy Toyota, which has the dealership of Toyota in North India, has taken up the responsibility to enhance road safety conditions in the national capital as a part of Team Toyota Activity. The newly launched safety project for schoolchildren in Montfort School is a comprehensive programme designed to help schoolchildren learn about road safety habits in their daily curriculum. The programme is aimed at creating safety ambassadors in schools by creating a safety zone and a safety park within the school, training of school vehicle drivers, and creation of a safety group in the school.
The safety zone will comprise of safety roads, parking bays and a safety staircase in the school. Zebra crossings, signboards, lane markings and speed breakers will also be created in the safety zone. Children will be educated on the importance of road safety signals, following the right safety behaviour, adhering to traffic rules, causes of accidents, etc. Additionally, the interactive Toyota Safety Education Programme (TSEP) will be implemented in the school. Under this programme, Toyota claims to have educated more than 680,000 schoolchildren across India on road safety.
Speaking at the launch, Akito Tachibana, managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said ‘As a corporate group committed towards ensuring the highest standards in road safety, it is our responsibility to connect with people from different walks of life and raise awareness to keep our roads safe for all users. The ‘safety model school’ programme will ensure that schoolchildren learn something every day.’
