CB BureauJust Be Friendly, a voluntary animal lovers’ organization in Guwahati, has come up with the ingenious idea of an ‘eco-friendly mobile kennel’ that goes from locality to locality picking up stray dogs.
The unique cycle-rickshaw cum kennel has deployed a novel eco-friendly mobile kennel to transport mongrels to its animal care centre where they are tended, vaccinated, sterilized and treated for ailments.
"This mobile kennel is very convenient. We can go to any lane to pick the dogs. We catch the street dogs and after giving them anti-rabies vaccine we release them back in the same locality where we picked them up from," said Shashank Shekhar Dutta, chief functionary, Just Be Friendly, Guwahati.
Guwahati has a very high density of stray dogs. A survey carried out by this NGO accounted 3,000 for street dogs within in an area of 10 square kilometres.
