The department of public enterprises (DPE) of the government
of India organized a two-day national-level workshop on corporate social responsibility (CSR), in collaboration with
Vision Consulting, in Puri on July 9.
The event was sponsored by National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) as the nodal
agency.
Presiding over the meeting, DPE Secretary Bhaskar Chatterjee
highlighted the concept and guidelines of CSR and responsibilities of the
central PSUs to promote CSR for the greater interests of the society and the
nation at large.
All participant agreed that CSR is a concept whereby organizations
serve the interests of the society by taking responsibility for the impact of
their activities on customers, employees, shareholders, communities and the
environment in all aspects of their operations. CSR is a company’s commitment
to operate in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner,
while recognizing the interest of its shareholders.
A booklet on CSR guidelines was also released at the event.
