The Art of Living Foundation (AoL) along with other NGOs
including Green Hills Group, One Life Club, Green Panchh, Give to Save
Foundation, Vasundhara Abhiyan, Green Earth Movement and Jal Taru Mitra
participated in a padyatra (walk) titled
‘Save the Earth’ to raise awareness about sustainable environment in Pune.
Participants carried placards highlighting the need for
plantation, saving electricity and water, and cutting down on pollution. The walk
was attended by about 750 people, mostly school children and members of NGOs
and AoL.
‘We have plans to take up similar padyatras around Pune. We
want support from NGOs and corporations to create awareness about environmental
issues through social networking sites,’ said Bhushan Deshpande. He confirmed
that as part of AoL’s ‘Mission Green Earth’ about 10 lakh saplings would be
planted across the country, including 70,000 in the city.
‘Such campaigns definitely motivate people to contribute
towards environment,’ said Sanjay Athavale, chairman of Green Hills Group.
