Sanjay Camp, an urban slum community comprising over 10,000 people located in Chanakyapuri, Delhi, was recently beautified in an initiative led by Shalimar Paints. More than 2,000  student volunteers from 70 universities and colleges  entered the locality with buckets of paint and brushes and painted over 1,500  walls of the Sanjay Camp area with graffiti of Indian culture and tradition.

This was done as part of a social initiative, ‘Rang Badlav Ke – Paint the Change’, by the company. The participants included artists, writers and photographers who turned up to paint, beautify, photograph, and tell stories about the Sanjay Camp community. The event also called upon the city’s  youth to help transform more parts of Sanjay Camp into lively places to live in.

CB did not receive responses to questions on providing further support to the Sanjay Camp area and plans to extend this activity to other places.

In a press release shared with CB,  Minal Srivastava, vice president, marketing, Shalimar Paints Limited, said, ‘The initiative is our underlined commitment to drive positive transformation and better the quality of people’s lives. Sanjay Camp has been home to numerous families for generations. It was time to brighten their lives with colours and give them a chance to tell their stories. We are thrilled to see the massive participation of the youth in this initiative. Their drive to bring about a change and uplift the lives of those less fortunate than them was palpable, while their energy was a testament to the fact that benevolence is and remains an inherently human trait.’
