CB BureauRBS India (a NatWest Group company) has launched the NatWest Group Earth Heroes Awards 2020 (formerly RBS Earth Heroes Awards) and is inviting applications for the same. As per the company, the awards will be presented in New Delhi in October 2020. CauseBecause has it from the spokesperson that RBS ‘will be evaluating the applications according to the timeline’.
RBS also claims to have been active in India supporting the UN SDGs, especially wildlife habitats, biodiversity, and livelihoods of tribal people and other forest-dependent communities through the RBS Foundation India.
As an extension of this work done by RBS in India, the NatWest Group Earth Heroes Awards was institutionalised in 2011 to recognise and honour individuals and institutions who work to preserve and protect wildlife, habitats, and the welfare of communities in these areas. The company is encouraging deserving officers and staff (forest and non-forest) as well as institutions to send their nominations.
The award winners in each category will be selected by an independent jury comprising of experts from the fields of wildlife conservation, biodiversity management, science and media, in addition to RBS representatives.
The last date for submitting nominations is 31 May 2020 and the award winners will be informed by 30 August 2020.

The award categories are:
- NatWest Group ‘Earth Guardian’ Award (INR 200,000) – institution: This award recognises an institution (NGO/Corporate/Government) that has made exceptional contributions in the fields of conservation of wildlife, human life and property in wild habitats, natural resource management, environment, wildlife research, and awareness building.
- NatWest Group ‘Save The Species’ Award (INR 200,000 each) – 2 individuals: This award recognises individuals who have been involved, directly or indirectly, in protecting any endangered species and have also contributed to education, awareness programmes, capacity building and resolving human-wildlife conflict.
- NatWest Group ‘Inspire’ Award (INR 200,000) – individual or institution: This award recognises an individual (journalist/filmmaker/artist) who has inspired action on conservation of wildlife, natural resource management, and environmental protection through his/her creative expression.
- NatWest Group ‘Green Warrior’ Award (INR 200,000 each) – 2 individuals: This award recognises individuals who have done commendable work in conservation of wildlife, natural resource management, environment protection, human lives, and property.
