Sixteen girls scored 90 per cent and above, and girls topped in all five Satya Bharti Adarsh Senior Secondary Schools, located in Punjab, in this year’s Class X CBSE board exams. Girls also dominated the list of subject-wise toppers by scoring the highest marks in social science (100 per cent), Punjabi (100 per cent), math (99 per cent), English (96 per cent), social science (97 per cent), and science (95 per cent). A total of 377 students from these schools appeared for the exam, with the pass percentage at 89 per cent.

Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises, runs these schools. Currently 254 Satya Bharti Schools are operational across villages in Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Of these, 249 are primary/elementary schools and five are senior secondary. The latter are being run in public”private partnership mode under the Punjab government’s Adarsh scheme.

Satya Bharti Schools claim to provide quality education to children in rural India, with a majority being first-generation learners. The schools use a mix of classroom and out-of-class activities, tools like education software and teaching learning material (TLM), and programmes like physical education curriculum (PEC) and English phonics programme.

CB’s questions related to support provided to the students who have passed out and long-term plans for this initiative did not receive any response from the foundation.
