Chief
Minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda has launched Mukhya Mantri Shiksha
Deeksha Yojana under the National Skills Qualification Framework(NSQF) project, in Gurgaon.
The
NSQF implementation in government schools of Haryana has received a positive response
with 13,681 students enrolling for ‘applied learning’ subjects across 140
schools for the second academic year. It is an increase from the 4,500 students
in 2012″13.
Under
NSQF, employment-oriented courses in specific industries including retail, IT, automotive,
beauty and wellness, and healthcare are offered to students of classes IX to
XII as an integral part of their curriculum. The programme aims to provide
skills related to a particular trade. Students undergo training in ‘functional
English’, are made to interact with professionals through field visits and guest
lectures, and are given on-job trainings. The trainers make classroom teaching interactive
through role play, quizzes and group discussions.
The
chief minister also felicitated Wadhwani Foundation for their contribution towards
quality education and successful implementation of the first pilot project
under NVEQF. Ajay Goel, director of Skill Development Network at Wadhwani
Foundation, said, ‘I express gratitude to the exemplary commitment of State
Education Department, Haryana… I acknowledge the role played by schools,
teachers and the students in creating a strong platform for NSQF. While
Wadhwani Foundation has provided support for NSQF implementation, the zeal and
enthusiasm of the enrolled students and their teachers has gone a long way in
the success of this programme.’
Students who completed the vocational courses in
2013 have already received on-campus job offers from companies including Larsen
& Toubro, Big Bazaar, Crowne Plaza and SRS. Interestingly, some students
had to turn down placement offers as they were younger than the statutory age
of 18 for employment.
