Students studying masters in business administration at Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, will not just learn about cliched capitalism and corporate profitability but will also get to understand concepts including common good, social responsibility and ethical equity, as the institute will add such subjects to the curriculum.

There is also a possibility of seeing IIM-L students researching on and submitting case studies on slum dwellers, displaced tribal populations, or even Maoists.

The business school also plans to adopt a village so that students can interact with its residents, learn about their problems and help solve them.

According to Sushil Kumar, IIM-L professor, ‘students will teach the villagers, they will learn the challenges they face in solving real-life situations, from sanitation to the family budget.’

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become an essential tool for any organization’s progress and this initiative by the business school will surely strengthen and speed up the momentum of the positive progress happening in the corporate world.
