It is like going back to the roots as a large section of farmers are switching to traditional yet healthier way of farming – organic farming.
Revealing an interesting finding from its study on organic farming in Rajasthan, industry body Assocham said that if organic farming is actively promoted, it has the potential to generate over 80 lakh jobs in Rajasthan in over the next five years.
The study said promotion of organic farming alone can generate over 65 lakh jobs apart from additional about 15 lakh jobs in on-farm storing, processing, value addition, packaging and marking facilities are included. The study says that adoption of organic farming can increase net per capita income of a farmer in the state by a 250 per cent to over Rs 15,000 in the next five years from a meagre Rs 6,000 at present.
Called ‘Organic Rajasthan: Untapped Potential for Growth’, the report says Rajasthan has a crucial role to take India’s share in global organic exports from about 0.2 per cent to about 2.5 per cent by 2017. Besides, the state has the potential of becoming India’s export hub for certified organic food to the global market.
The report was released jointly by former Assocham President Anil K Agrawal and Diya Kumari, chairperson of the Assocham’s Rajasthan chapter on December 4.
