Inaugurating a corporate social
responsibility centre – The CSR Hub – at Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship
(IIE) in Guwahati, Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
(MSME) Giriraj Singh expressed his hope that corporate groups would contribute
towards economic development of the region by extending a helping hand to local
entrepreneurs. He said, ‘This CSR Hub has the potential of bringing about a
revolution by way of involving corporate and PSUs in imparting skill training,
entrepreneurship building, supporting livelihood clusters, providing solar
solutions, creating model villages and promoting rural entrepreneurs.’ While emphasising
the need for development of resource-based sectors like food processing,
sericulture and handloom and handicrafts, Singh said that IIE would play a
catalytic role in channelizing products in domestic and international market.

IIE Director Manoj Das said
there was a need for taking up innovative programmes like ‘one village, one
product’ for promoting rural entrepreneurship in the region. Das also said that
corporates in the region could now access IIE’s CSR Hub for their corporate
social work.

It may be noted that under the
CSR mandate of India Infrastructure Finance Corporation Limited (IIFCL), IIE
has tied up with National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation
(NSTFDC) to take up one handloom project for each of the eight states of the northeast.
