Earlier in March 2019, 10,000 meals were packed and distributed to street kids and orphans by United Airlines along with its global partner Rise Against Hunger India (RAHI). The company has taken up an initiative with Rise Against Hunger to pack 2 million meals globally, as disclosed to CauseBecause by their official spokesperson. This is their first such initiative in India and will be one of the many planned activities.
Around 60 United Airlines employees participated in the first meal-packaging volunteering event at the DLF Cyber City office of the company. They packed 10,000 meals for street kids and children from vulnerable communities in Delhi. Representatives from United Airlines’ global headquarters in Chicago, USA, along with Rise Against Hunger USA officials visited various organisations that are being supported by this initiative.
In addition to sponsoring and volunteering for meal packaging/distribution, United Airlines was also involved with RAHI’s relief efforts in Kerala, providing meals and contributing towards their daily needs with funds to purchase fishing nets and boats. The company also does onsite volunteering and visits to various institutions and organisations to distribute meals. In terms of frequency of such events, the company could not give a definite answer.
