For the third consecutive year, diversified natural-resources
company Vedanta Limited has bagged the National Energy Conservation Award. The
company’s aluminium plant bagged the second position for superior energy
management.

The awards were conferred by the Minister of State
(Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy Piyush
Goyal in December 2015.The Government
of India gives the award to a company that exhibits its commitment towards
sustainability and environmental conservation through efficient management of
available energy resources.

‘…this prestigious award recognises our commitment and
sustained effort towards energy conservation. I congratulate everyone in my
team for this recognition as it is made possible through continuous team work,
utilisation of business excellence tools, and innovation projects in different
spheres of our operation,’ said Abhijit Pati, CEO, aluminium business, Vedanta,
in a media release shared with CauseBecause.

Vedanta claims to have undertaken numerous energy-conservation
initiatives through a well-defined energy policy and setting stringent targets
for improving performance and achieving benchmark energy efficiency.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) evaluates the energy consumption data and
shortlists companies for the award. The shortlisted organisations are audited
by a team of officials from the ministry of power.
