CB BureauReleasing the compendium titled ‘Studies on Pollution Mitigation’, Former ISRO chairman Dr G Madhavan Nair appealed to scientists and engineers to translate good research in practical purpose and solve problems of pollution, climate change and health not only at national level, but also at small, local levels.
Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) brought out this compendium comprising 133 research papers on various facets of pollution-related matters. Aspects covered include environmental issues such as air-quality management, bio-chemical studies, bio-monitoring, bio-remediation, environment impact assessment, groundwater management, hazardous waste, industrial pollution control, municipal waste management and water quality.
Nair, while releasing the compendium, suggested controlling solid waste, kitchen waste, reuse of water and saving energy by applying innovative measures at local levels.
He also stressed on regular monitoring of the environment, especially of forests, water bodies, oceans and dams as, he said, it would give key inputs for planning.
‘The technology is available to use geographic information system-global positioning system (GIS-GPS) without much expenditure, and this will provide proper observation system,’ he added.
