Car washes at service centres are a major component of after-sales services and require a large amount of water. Apparently, a car-wash technique called Foam Wash has saved Nissan India 95 million litres of water over the past four years and reduced water consumption by 44 per cent. Introduced in 2014 at most of its service centres across India, this technique uses 90 litres of water per car compared to the conventional method which consumes 162 litres. No hard chemicals are involved in this process.
However, since the company did not respond to our questions, we do not know if such measures are unique to Nissan India; nor could we get other details pertaining to sustainability at these centres.
In a press release shared with CB, Sanjeev Aggarwal, vice president – after sales at Nissan Motor India, said, ‘Nissan aims to contribute towards sustainable development of society through our product and services. The Foam Wash initiative is quite popular amongst Nissan and Datsun car owners and allows us to collectively save water, time and contribute towards a sustainable eco-system.’
