An annual initiative that raises awareness around breast cancer is the so-called ‘Carnival for a Cause’. Organised jointly by Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi, and Elle India, and led by Ogaan Cancer Foundation, the funds raised are extended to the Foundation as well as support the Women’s Cancer Initiative – Tata Memorial Hospital, besides being used for funding breast-cancer treatments for underprivileged women. Funds are raised through the sale of designerwear and luxury merchandise at an affordable price.
Both Ogaan Cancer Foundation and the Women’s Cancer Initiative have a longstanding partnership. The hotel has supported this event for over a decade.
The hospital identifies women from poor backgrounds who are unable to afford treatments and takes care of the funds needed to cover the cost of treatments and medications. Till now, 1,100 women have benefited from this initiative.
The theme for this year’s carnival was ‘Welcome Summer’ and the evening saw musical performances. On display were designerwear, accessories and essentials from brands such as Masaba, Amrapali, Anamika Khanna and Swarovski, and a silent auction featuring designer merchandise from Gucci, Gaurav Gupta, Tod’s, Shantanu & Nikhil, and Anamika Khanna.
